You are responsible for reserving/canceling your own accommodations
If there are no camping spots left, or if camping isn’t your thing, please look into local hotels. The closest hotel is: Courtyard by Marriott Amelia Island – 2700-1 Atlantic Ave, Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 +19042611919 (We do not have any group rate for this event)
The Main Registration Rule (Crucial)
Please do not just show up. You must register in advance by email.
- Every wet-plate photographer must register separately.
- Registering yourself does not grant entry to other wet-plate photographers.
Why are we strict about this?
We have been graciously granted limited access inside the Fort. Knowing the exact head count is essential for managing our event logistics smoothly.
Upon Arrival
When you arrive, please find Christine or Syd to physically sign a Volunteer Form. You must sign this form before setting up your darkbox. The form grants you coverage under the Fort’s liability insurance for the weekend.
👥 Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I bring my spouse or family? Yes! We want this to be a fun weekend of socializing and making pictures. Feel free to bring your significant other, spouse, or family members. However, if they are also a wet-plate photographer who plans to shoot, they must register separately.
- Can I bring my children? Children are welcome, but you are solely responsible for supervising them. There are no childcare services available.
- Can I bring my pet? Please review the official park rules regarding pets. Leashed dogs are typically allowed, but check the regulations for other animals.
- What if my plans change? If you can no longer attend, please let us know immediately. It frees up a spot for someone else and helps us adjust our logistics.
- Will our pictures be shared online? As a gesture of our sincere gratitude for the privilege of making plates inside the Fort, we invite you to provide digital scans of your work for the Museum’s archives for future display, if you so choose. Please send an email or dropbox link after the event. If you have pictures from the event, please share those too! We’d love to see them and will credit you if we post. We’re thinking about putting up an Instagram account and will update the page if we do that.
- Can I drive my gear into the fort? No, but we can get you pretty close. We know you have a lot of gear. Please bring a beach cart or something like that to help move your gear from your vehicle to where you’ll be set up. Let the team know if you don’t have one, and we’ll help.
- Is there water inside the Fort? Yes. But it’s an old-timey hand pump. Just like in the old days! I can show you how to use it. I think there’s a secondary water source (a spigot), but will have to check on it to make sure it’s working ok. I will update this website after I check.
- Is there a restroom inside the Fort? NO. But there is a restroom at the Visitor Center which is a short walk.
